Oversell and out of stock settings
What happens when a buyer attempts to purchase an item that isn't in stock, or a quantity above what you currently have available? As a seller, you have a few options, which can be set via your Settings>Inventory page:
To illustrate how these options appear, here's a sample order with the same products under each of the three configurations.
Please note: Sellers and Reps can see all published products on all orders, regardless of how this is set – this just affects what Buyers see.
Option 1: Oversell
- Item with sufficient stock: sells as normal
- Item with not quite enough stock: can be added to order, with alert state and note that "Only x are available"
- Item with unlimited stock: sells as normal
- Item that is out of stock: alert state and note as above, as well as customizable "Out of Stock" label in catalog view
Option 2: Hide
- Item with sufficient stock: sells as normal
- Item with not quite enough stock: can be added to order, but quantity automatically drops down to maximum available (eg, if you enter "10" and there are only "5" left, it changes to "5")
- Item with unlimited stock: sells as normal
- Item that is out of stock: hidden from the catalog
Option 3: Lock
- Inventory with sufficient stock: sells as normal
- Inventory with not quite enough stock: can be added to order, but quantity automatically drops down to maximum available (eg, if you enter "10" and there are only "5" left, it changes to "5")
- Inventory with unlimited stock: sells as normal
- Inventory that is out of stock: can be viewed in the catalog, but not added to the order at all
