How to remove duplicate products
What causes duplicate products?
Duplicate products are usually the result of products syncing over from your ecommerce store integration. To prevent unexpected holes from being punched in your order history and reporting, Candid keeps a record of all the products you ever created in your connected ecommerce store.
An example of how this happens goes something like this:
- A product is initially created in Shopify
- A second product with the same name gets created in Shopify but with a different id
- The first product gets deleted in Shopify
- The second product creates a new product in Candid
How to avoid duplicating products
The best way to avoid creating duplicate products in Candid is to not create any duplicates in your ecommerce store.
Some tips are:
- Avoid copying products in your ecommerce store
- Don't reuse the same product names
- Make each product name unique and easy to track
Keep product names simple, don't include descriptive text or promo's in the name
How can I delete duplicate products?
So that record keeping doesn't accidentally get lost we don't allow for full product deletion (with some exceptions). We do however let you archive products which removes them from your product manager and catalog(s). You can do this by selecting products and changing their status to "Archived". You can read more about who to do this here: How to archive products
