How to keep your Candid emails out of spam filters

Why did my email get marked as Spam?

Spam filters have improved greatly over the years—so much so that they tend to get carried away when marking messages as spam or junk mail. Sometimes, this happens because an important contact has fallen victim to a phishing attack. Other times, it could be because the emails are coming from a shared server and getting penalized for spammy server neighbors. Other times, the filters just get it wrong.

The good news is that whitelisting is an easy fix, and there are several different approaches you can take to prevent important emails from landing in the wrong folder.

What is whitelisting?

Whitelisting is the term used to refer to the process of adding approved contacts to your email account. This can help keep most emails from ending up in your spam folder. You can whitelist emails either at the individual level (a single email address) or the domain level (multiple emails from one place—think all emails ending in @candidwholesale.com).

How to whitelist an email address in Gmail

The emails that you will want to add to your email address book and/or whitelist are noreply@candidwholesale.com and team@candidwholesale.com.

Option 1 - Tell Gmail the emails are not spam:

  1. In Gmail, navigate to the spam folder.
  2. Search for emails containing the domain you wish to whitelist (e.g., @candidwholesale.com).
  3. Select all the emails shown.
  4. Click Not Spam.

Option 2 - Create a filter to tell Google to whitelist an email address:

  1. Click the cog icon in the top-right corner of Gmail and then click Settings.
  2. Click on Filters and Blocked Addresses and then click Create a new filter.
  3. Enter the email you want to whitelist in the From field.
  4. Click Create filter with this search.
  5. Select the box that says Never send it to spam.
  6. Click the Create filter button.

What if I'm still having trouble getting emails?

If you have tried everything we have mentioned but are still having issues getting emails, then it may be time to check your other email settings. Sometimes problems can occur when someone is using the same domain host for their website and their email (think GoDaddy, Wix, etc.) because it's not always clear what settings to use, and things can get confusing really fast. In this case, you will need to check your email settings with them and see if some adjustments need to be made. If you are still stuck, we recommend contacting your domain/email support team so that they can walk you through setting your email up correctly.
